Ashtanga Expanded: Introduction to 2nd Series

Description:
The 2nd series of Ashtanga yoga is a precise sequence of postures, linked together in the vinyasa style (Flow). As well as the postures, it includes a specific breathing technique (ujjayi) , use of bandhas (Locks- specific muscular engagements) , drishti (gaze points) and coordinated movement with the breath. The Second Series aka the Intermediate Series is one of the 6 series of the Ashtanga Yoga System. This series expands on the foundations. The Salutations and the standing poses continued with some options for binds. In place of the seated poses of the primary series we explore back bends, binds and inversions.
The series is longer and takes time to learn. We will use the first sessions will break it down in sections and refine the individual postures. The next sessions we will practice the full flow.
Modifications and variations will be given for all levels.
Prerequisites:
This is for ambulatory (can easily get up and down off of the floor) students who like to move.
Cost:
$120 Full Series ($99 for the first 5 registered)

June 7th W1: Refining the Salutation: How to Jump/Float forward and back
June 14th W2: Standing Postures and Balance: Refine or Bind
June 21st W3: Intermediate Series (Back Bends, Twists, Arm Balance)
June 28th W4: Inversions, Drop Backs and Finishing Postures
July 5-26th W5-8: The Full Lead 2nd Series Flow
