Kirtan Session w/ Ian Froman
Date: Friday, September 20th
Time: 6:00-7:00 pm
Cost: $20
Kirtan is a Sanskrit word that means "to narrate, recite, tell, describe". It is community performance art that originated in India and is a form of call-and-response chanting. Kirtan is often expressed through music, poetry, drama, dance, or oral recitation, but is best known for its call-and-response singing of mantras.
Join Ian in chant - singing mantra in a call and response format. Sung in Sanskrit, word sheet will be provided, with Ian accompanying on harmonium.
Known as a “vehicle for the mind”, the repetition of a mantra can be used to calm the mind, transform negative emotions and cultivate a deep feeling of peace.
The intention is to evoke and experience a state of pure loving awareness and being.
Mantras quiet the mind and the music frees the heart. Chanting is one of the world’s oldest means of finding bliss.
Ian Froman, professional musician, professor of music at Berklee College and RYT 500 yoga teacher, will lead your journey to the heart. Kirtan is a folk form of call and response chanting. These mantras quiet the mind and the music frees the heart. It can be a very meditative practice. Singing together gives us peace of mind. Bring yourselves, your hands for clapping, your voice for singing and any hand percussion you have.
