Course Description:
This training is for YOU! You live in a body and we will help you understand your movement, recognize patterns, overcome body resistance, and develop a practical anatomy dialog that will serve you in your yoga or fitness practice. These weekends additionally offer CE credits for Yoga Educators or may be applied to the Boundless Yoga Studio 300 hr Teacher Training Program.
The training is broken into three distinctive weekends. We will hone in on specific areas to deepen our understanding and radically shift how we approach our movements. All bodies have basic similarities, yet we all have a unique arrangement that requires an individualized approach. The shapes we make serve a purpose and we will address how that shape can be modified to work with each student's unique anatomy and balance of strength and flexibility.
This course includes hours of inspirational instruction in anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology (bio-mechanics), and how it all applies to our movement cues and choices. We will use yoga as our primary teacher of movement, but it doesn't matter if you teach or don't teach, or if you teach different styles, or different modalities, you will understand more fully how your body works (and how it doesn't) to find more space and freedom and develop a pathway to more energy and less pain.
Weekend 1: Bones, Joints and Bio-mechanics w/ Chris Loebsack
Do you wonder why it is easy for you to make some shapes and not others? Have you been practicing and not finding the results you were looking for?
Have you ever experienced pain in your joints?
Are you hesitant to teach students with injuries? (or hesitant to do poses because of an injury?)
The skeleton is the deepest part of our structural framework. The bones provide rigid levers for the muscles to move the bones and the joints (articulations between the bones) allow the space for the bones to move. When you look at the human skeleton the 206 bones and 32 teeth stand out. But look closer and you’ll see even more structures. The human skeleton also includes ligaments and cartilage. Ligaments are bands of dense and fibrous connective tissue that are key to the function of joints. Cartilage is more flexible than bone but stiffer than muscle. Space is what gives the body utility and in this weekend we will explore the incredible landscape of the human skeleton and the joints that allow us to make our intended shapes. We will explore why each of us may find great ease in some areas and difficulty in other ares of movement.
In this course we will look closer at:
Weekend 2: Muscles and Movement w/ Corinne Farrell
Building upon the framework of our skeletal structure and joint anatomy we will explore the major muscle groups of the body. We will highlight where we can harmonize strength with functional range of motion for a safer body movement practice. We will explore how muscles work individually and together. We will dive deeper into the differences in types of contractions and types of stretch. We will use these differences to facilitate greater ease and understanding of how we move, or where we may feel stuck, and how to stabilize or release the muscles in our postures.
Weekend 3: Patterns and Posture (Weekends 1 and 2 are prerequisites for this weekend.) w/ Corinne Farrell
Do you confidently know how to "read" the body? If you are teaching classes you should find out more about these questions. . .
This weekend builds upon the first two weekends as we enter the great geek out! You will work in small groups, with support from Chris and Corinne, to break down movements and apply your knowledge. Together we will explore postures and movement and share ideas.
Did you know your muscles are actually myofascial units so every muscular movement of the muscle fibers has to work in a harmonious relationship with the fascia? Did you know that a lot of pain experienced is felt in the fascia due to high innervation? How are the hip flexors, diaphragm and neck muscles related to stress? Why are Yoga poses so effective for fascia release work?
In this weekend we take a close look at Fascia but also the anatomy as a whole. As a teacher this will enable you to become more effective in class structure, postural analysis, understanding movement synergy and 'seeing' imbalances. This is beneficial for teachers, and for anyone who wants to understand how their anatomy works, which can improve your practice, daily living and give you the tools to be able to correct imbalances within your own body.
The Myofascial Units (muscles) can be negatively impacted in several instances – physical or emotional trauma, scarring, or inflammation, and even every day stressful situations will cause the myofascia to become tight, causing stress on the rest of the body. Because of the interconnected nature of fascia, consistent poor posture or repetitive movement patterns can cause our body to hold more tension, and be less flexible, which can lead to anxiety and stress, and even injury

We will explore why each of us may find great ease in some areas and difficulty in other ares of movement.
In this course we will look closer at:
- The 4 main areas of the spine and their interconnected movements
- Major joint articulations including: ankles, knees, hips, shoulders elbows and wrists
- Understand available range of motion for each joint
- Learn how to create space instead of force
- Understand the difference between tension and compression

- Names of bony landmarks that will make it easier to understand your muscles in part 2
- Learn how to use our unique alignment of our bones to create joint and body stability
- Learn for whom and when, we may make modifications or challenges based on each persons unique anatomy
- Clarify your movement language and cue better in your classes
